BioSense Institute (BIOS), Research and Development Institute for IT in biosystems, is a pioneer in digital transformation of agriculture in Serbia, founded in 2015. Exploring scientific and technological frontiers regarding the application of IT in agriculture, the Institute strives to deliver state-of-the- art digital solutions to the farming sector in Serbia and the world, in order to ensure higher yields with smaller investments. Material science, micro and nano electronics, sensor design, remote sensing, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, biosystem research, cellular agriculture and bioarcheology are just some of the scientific fields BioSense integrates to make agriculture more efficient and uses science as a backbone for economic growth, social well-being, and employment.
Thanks to such a transdisciplinary approach, the Institute has left an indelible mark in the international scientific community. This is proved by the participation in 30 national and around 50 international projects, most of them from the European Union’s Research and Innovation Program – Horizon 2020, and lately from Horizon Europe, as well as numerous national and international awards that researchers from BioSense have won.
Based on its transdisciplinary approach, BioSense Institute comprises of 3 research-oriented centers: 1) Center for sensing technologies (the development of sensors that can detect and measure different parameters and processes in biosystems, and as such be applied agri-food sector, environmental monitoring, and medical applications), 2) Center for Information Technologies (application of advanced machine learning techniques to model the processes happening within biosystems, optimize the decision-making and extract valuable knowledge from long streams of heterogeneous data), and 3) Center for Biosystems (devoted to understanding the diversity, variability and functioning of biosystems). In addition, Institute has 2 innovation-oriented centers: 1) Center for Innovation and Business Development (creation of a new opportunities for successful business utilization of BioSense’s research results), and 2) Center for Product Development (high-tech solutions for industry and government based on scientific results of the Institute).
WP1: in T1.3 and T1.4, BioSense will support all the I3S from technical perspective and facilitate the knowledge transfer from I3S to online tools.
WP6: BioSense will use its skilled professionals (e.g., web developers, designers), experience, supply chain knowledge and international network to support CONSULAI and co-lead the work package. In addition, BioSense will lead the implementation of: T6.2 and T6.6 and coordinate the involved partners in order to activate the community, and entire European value chain to boost the spread of ClieNFarms results.
