Irish ClieNFarms Team Participated in the Farming for Water Event
The Irish ClieNFarms team attended the ‘Farming for Water’ event organised by Dairygold and Teagasc on the farm of Raymond Goggin, one of the Irish Dairy I3S Lead Commercial farms. The main aim of the event was to offer farmers action focused advice and highlight the significant efforts being made by farmers to improve water quality and protect the nitrates derogation.
Presentations were given on the agriculture catchments program, reducing N surplus for water quality, and the importance of water quality. Raymond has taken measures to protect water quality on his farm including having surplus slurry and soiled water storage capacity, new dungsted constructed, buffer planted to protect critical source areas, cambered roadways and moved water troughs, 10m buffer strip for slurry applications and clean water runoff from silage yard diverted.
